RULES
Bolton Slo-Pitch League Specific Rules
Unless stated here, all other rules shall be in accordance with the SPN rule book.
• The +2 homerun rule is in effect. Once you have two more homeruns than your
opponents any further home run is an out.
• Any ball that goes out of the field on the sides of diamond one before reaching the back
fence are ground rule doubles if they are fair.
• Pylons are to be placed before the game extending the fence on the small diamond (2)
and any ball that passes over them in the air is a home run.
• On diamond 1 the fair and foul poles are the yellow poles inside of the fence if you are
not familiar with these please ask before the game.
• There is a five (5) run mercy in innings before the last inning of the game, there is no
mercy in the last inning. This is called by the umpire.
• Games will start at 9:00am for the early games and 10:30am for the late game. Please
arrive at the diamonds accordingly. NO NEW INNING IS TO START AFTER 1 HOUR AND
15MINUTES OF PLAYING TIME.
• If available, jerseys are to be worn for games.
• Any runner touching the plate is an out.
• No lead offs are allowed and will be called an out, ie: player can only leave on contact
with the ball. Anticipation is not permitted and will be considered a lead off.
• Sliding IS permitted
• Stepping on the plate or outside of the batter’s box is an out.
• Per Section 15 of the SPN rule book “A courtesy runner shall occupy the base of the
player he is running for” or in other words start from the base attained by the
batter. Unlimited courtesy runners per game. A player can only be used as a courtesy
runner once per game.
• Courtesy runners are permitted from any base once reaching first. Unlimited pinch
runners in the regular season.
• Courtesy Runners are not permitted from home plate.
• Any ball that reaches the outfield minus an error by an infielder grants the batter a
single. Any attempts after the bag has been reached renders the player subject to
regular baseball rules.
• A ball that goes into the foliage in centre field on diamond 1 will be a ground rule
double.
• There is no longer any height rule on foul tips caught by the catcher.
• All players that play in the field must bat, and all players in the line up must play at least
one inning in the field.
• Players must play a minimum of 7 games in order to be eligible to play in the playoffs -
considerations will be given to injuries, will be decided by all captain vote
• Regular Season Rule - Substitute (Call Ups) players must bat last in the batting order.
Substitute players can only be players within the BSPL, no outside players allowed for
insurance purposes. In the regular season, callups can play any defensive position.
• Playoff Rule - Substitute (Call Ups) players may only play catcher and must bat last in the
batting order. Substitute players can only be players within the BSPL, no outside players
allowed for insurance purposes.
• Substitute Players/Call Ups can only be used if the team has less than 9-players.
• Minimum and maximum pitching distances will be determined prior to the game
beginning.
